Wood, Steel, Brick and Cement. What is the right material to build a house?

In recent years the use of materials used in the past has been restored, opening up a range of possibilities for residential construction; thanks to innovative construction and engineering techniques we are able to fulfill the needs of contemporary man.

The survival of man, since its origin, has been determined based on its ability to adapt to the environment by exploiting the natural resources available or more readily available. At least since the Neolithic, the protection conferred by a house has been one of the primary concerns of the human being, which is why it has developed over time an ever-increasing competence in this area: from the first walls to clay and straw racks to wooden houses, from increasingly substantial structures made of stone and bricks to the exclusive use of stone, finally arriving at the most modern materials.

Features to consider

Each building material is characterized by different properties that determine different design solutions; also remember that each material responds differently to the place and consequently to the climate in which you want to build.
In choosing the right material for your home, we advise you to remember this basic principle, in order to give the home better safety results and comfort.
The materials must meet the following requirements:

mechanics
physics (thermal insulation, sound insulation, reverberation reduction)
chemical composition
breathability
resistance (to wear, to interperia)
durability
processing times
safety in case of seismic events
adaptation to local climatic / environmental conditions

But what are the materials in use today?

Bricks : brick, or more correctly, bricks, is one of the most commonly used materials, but to be used it must be reinforced or placed between reinforced stamped concrete frames in the so-called mixed structures. The class of bricks includes a wide range of products such as bricks, tiles and tiles. Under this name, in fact, generally all materials composed of clay are classified, including perforated bricks useful for covering the external walls. The use of brick is the most consolidated technique but it is also the most expensive both for the material and for the labor. Furthermore, the occurrence of the humidity problem, to which wet construction is subjected, can entail considerable maintenance costs.

Reinforced concrete : consisting of concrete and iron bars, reinforced concrete is very common in the construction of civil works, given the characteristics of resistance and traction. Usually it is not used to make custom-made elements since it would involve a great economic and material expenditure; it is in fact used through prefabrication. As stated the main characteristic is the resistance but it can present risks in terms of safety in case of collapse due to seismic events, considering the heaviness of the material.
